Knee Arthroscopy

Knee arthroscopy is used to investigate the cause of your knee problems, and to treat a variety of knee conditions. It is used to diagnose problems such as arthritis and inflammation, and also use it to repair damaged tissue and cartilage.

Arthroscopy is performed through small cuts in your skin, using a special telescope (arthroscope) attached to a video camera. Compared with open surgery, arthroscopy is less painful, carries less risk of infection, and has a faster recovery time.

Knee arthroscopy is used to treat
• Meniscus injuries
• Cartilage tears
• Posterior cruciate ligament tears
• Patella/knee cap dislocations
• Meniscus transplantations

You will need to rebuild the strength and mobility in your knee following an arthroscopy. Specific exercises for your knee may be recommended and this may involve physiotherapy for several weeks. You will be given more information about what activities are suitable for you depending on your post-surgery recovery rate.
